Option 1 gives me the option to have 2 wheelsets and swap between road and mountain bike tires to allow for times i wanan ride my hardtail out on the mountains, but with those tires will it be efficient enough to train/ride to work? I do own a full sus right now but a hardtail has always been fun to me and i learned a lot on it. rough and rowdy.
Option 2 really lets me push the road training and gets me to work faster? i guess? lol not sure but im trying to figure this out as i dont really like road riding and having more MTB's is always mroe fun
So you already have nice mtb? Get a road bike for sure. I did option 1 and I regret it. The bike never gets used as a mountain bike.
If you want a hardtail buy a nice one and get a decent road bike off craigslist for a few hundred. I wouldn't try to double-duty a mtb as a commuter unless you've got some jumps and stuff on the way to work.
