I've just received a set of Five Ten Maltese Falcon shoes and Shimano M530 pedals with the SH51 cleats. I've been messing around for a while on them getting used to running clipless for the first time. The feeling of unclipping is surprisingly natural (clipping in might take a while!) but the float is very weird.
Looking between the shoe and the pedal, there's a gap of a couple of millimetres, this is with no spacers under the cleat. Is it normal to feel very 'floaty' on the pedal, almost like having a small pedal with no pins in? Sure I'll get used to it, just wondering if there's supposed to be some contact between the shoe and pedal.
This pedal float it completely normal. If you turn the preload on the pedal sings that control the force to get your cleat out, that float will shrink a bit.
