Swapping lowers between 27.5 and 27.5+/29 RockShox Pike

Accidentally bought a 2016 boost 27.5 pike but needed a 27.5+/29 boost pike. I have now also bought a 2017 boost 27.5+/29 pike but the steerer just barely fits. I would like the greater flexibility of a longer steerer if it is cheap to swap the lowers. Is it possible to swap the lowers between these two models so that I could have the longer steerer currently on the 27.5 pike? Will I need anything besides a syringe and appropriate oil? They are both the same travel. Thanks.
