Hi guys,

I'm thinking to change my crankset from 2x11 to 1x11 because I'm not using the bigger chaining at all. I'm kinda newbie in bike components, so I need your advice here.

My current components setup (bike radon swoop 9.0 2017):

Crank: Race Face Aefect SL, 36/26T, 170mm
Cassete: Shimano SLX CS-M7000, 11-40.

So I was thinking to get rid off the bigger chaining (36t) and front derailleur. Then change only small chaining (26t) to raceface narrow wide 30t or 32t. Is this possible to do with current crank? Or in my case I need to buy new crank? Like this one - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/pl/en/race-face-aeffect-crankset/rp-prod146212

I'm not an expert either, though I believe you could just unscrew the front derailleur and take off a chainring, then fill the gap with a spacer. A chaninguide will be very helpful, if not essential. https://www.mrpbike.com/sxg/

Before you take action, you should listen to others, since I am not positive that my idea is flawless.

thanks for advice. I already have a chain guide on by bike: E*thirteen TRS+, dual, ISCG05. But this one dual, which probably mean for 2 chain rings. Will have to change it to 1x11 I guess.

On the Aeffect crank that you have you can take off the spider and put a direct mount ring.

Did you manage to do a 1x11 conversion with the original crank? Looking to do the same myself! Thanks

These are pretty well documented, you compromise on top and bottom gear range if you don't change cassette.
