Anybody ride with a 29er up front only. I really like the pedal power of a 26" rear but the obstacle ability of a 29er up front would be awesome on a full gravity setup. Anybody got ideas or suggestions? Plus a new 29er fox or rockshock fork is pretty spendy if i upgrade...

I ran 29+ front and 27.5+ rear for two weeks. In my estimation, riding rigid will tell you real quick what a bike is doing on the trail. This combination seemed to hang up more in tech climbing such as crag rocks and roots. It just did not have the role over of a 29 rear and of course I had to pedal more.

One-One Scandal 29 front and 27.5 rear.

They call them 69ers. 29 front with 26 rear, and most dirt motorcycles come with bigger front wheels than rear. If my 1999 Marzocchi front shock ever fails on my 26 bike, I plan to convert to 69er.

I've thought the reverse might make more sense lately, a 27.5+ up front with a 29er out back... best traction and bump up front and fast/good roll over out back. I might need to try it soon.

The motorcycle world thinks otherwise. Large diameter tire up front with smaller/fatter rear. If you do try it, let us know how it works.

Had a few 69er's over the years, the last being a '10 Trek Top Fuel FS 69er. Many times the 29' front would write checks that the 26" rear couldn't cash. Moved on to a full 29 after a while.

I built up a 69r a bunch of years ago. Karate monkey front fork on a schwin aluminum frame that I’ve had since college. Some nice wide boo bars up front. It’s like flying a moose through the woods. Crazy lite and fun.

Just finished my experimental swap of wheels and I love it. I took a 2016 SW Camber 29 and first swapped out the fork from the 120mm RS1 to a 140mm Pike. This raised the bottom bracket from 330mm to 337mm with 29” wheels front and back. Rode this setup for a year and overall I was very happy. After reading some of these threads I decided to pick up a 27.5” Roval Traverse SL (30mm internal ID) to place in the back with a 2.6” 27.5” wheel. Bottom bracket height is now back to factory Spec, 330mm. In terms of Headtube Angle, it is about 1-1.5 degree slacker than it was stock with the RS1. Bike improvement is most notable on steep climbs and switch backs (getting going from stop or slow pace). No negatives in this setup for me expect the expense needed for the swap.

Will post a quick picture if anyone is interested.
