I live in southern Oklahoma, and I’m new in mountain biking. I live in a small town and my LBS can only get me cannondale or KHS. I want a good bike but nothing to expensive since I don’t Know How much I’m gonna like the sport.. my budget is $1000 recommendations please.. I’m just planning on riding on my local trails and around town!!

Have you considered a used bike? Look on Pinkbike’s BuySell pages, hundreds of bikes in your price range (if not local, shipping is usually around $100). I am a full suspension only guy, even riding on the road, my lower back doesn’t like bumps.

For hardtail, my neighbor got a deal on a new Specialized Fuse for less than $1K. It has 27.5 plus tires, so they absorb some bumps.

I like 1X with narrowwide chainring, but the rear cassette needs to be wide range. SRAM 10-42 is great, but anything with less range than 11-36 would be better with 2 chainrings up front.

Check out Giant, Diamondback and Raleigh they all have great specs bikes for a decent price, also consider buying a used or older model year new bike you'll get a better deal

These are the lbs $1k bikes. Both have shit forks, but are at least an entry point. I started with an xct, but upgraded quickly!

Cannondale does not have a 27.5 $1k hardtail. KHS has both at $1k pp.

I'd go with the khs because of the geometry. 67.5 with 120mm fork. 66.5 with 130mm fork.

My first mtb was a KHS Yamaha. Steel hardtail.
