So i'm going single speed on my bike, ille most likely be riding a lot of street and dirtjumping. What size teeth should I get for the front ring. I was thinking 13 and somewhere between 25-30 on the front. Would this be alright for what i'm trying to do?Confused

Ide like it to be as if I was in the gears 2 on the front and 5-6 in the rear(normal de-railer)

Anyone out there have any suggestions?2 cents

run a 30 tooth in the front and a 16 in the back, that way you wont need a tensioner

Okay, my buddy has that set-up on his bike but a 13 tooth on the back and it runs fine, ide like something around the same but a little easier, would the 16 tooth make it easier?

So would that be a good ratio or would the 30:16 be better?

the easiest way to find out what gearing to run is to calculate it, this is done by taking the number of teeth on your front sprocket and dividing it by the number of teeth in the back, then multiply by wheel size. normal gearing is about 55, the higher the number the harder it is to pedal, so for you if you have a 25 tooth front sproket run a 12 in the back, but you need bmx cranks to run a 25, for reg mtb cranks you can go as small as 32 teeth, so any where in the 14 to 16 range is perfect

rite peeple. firstly, the ideal gearing (recomended) is 36-16 so work it out from that, ie. 32-14 etc. secondly dont buy hanger style tensioners, they look shit and u mite aswell just have a deralier!

play around with slightly different cog sizes on the rear and get either a whole halflink chain or just 1 or 2 links, that will sort out tension issues.

So 32-14 would work and I wouldn't need to change over to bmx cranks?

i cant promise it will work but thats the recommended gearing, jst get a half link if u have problems with chain tension.

Would 32:16 do it, and does anyone know a price range on a 32 tooth ring?
