MTB Jumps - Bunnyhop?

Hey, I’m new to mountain biking and wanted to know if I wanted to hit dirt jumps (on downhill trails) do I NEED to be able to bunnyhop? Thanks for the help!

Check youtube, mainly GMBN, Neil D has a great video on how to properly bunny hop. Just search through their videos. Also there a few others out there, but I like GMBN videos for how to do stuff. Here's a link to the video.
