Transporting a surfboard or kayak by bike - 30 miles

Hi everyone,
just started this thread to see if anyone has any ideas or past experience in this..
basically I live about 20 miles from the sea, but 30 miles to the best beach for surfing.

i want to transport either a surfboard (2 meters long) or a kayak (3 meters long)

ive found items like this: http://www.bikefold.com/shop/product/gear/racks-bike-mounted/surfboard-racks/carver-bicycle-short-surf-board-rack/ which i may go for if no other options are available (and forget the kayak for the moment)

does anyone transport either of these items and have an alternative solution?
