I've had a Liv Hail and currently ride a Canfield Balance. I am much happier on my Balance than my Hail. I think the Hail was good for where I was when I bought it, but I never felt as bold on it as I do my Balance. A friend of mine now has my Hail and is loving it compared to her Kona Process. My opinion is that it's hit or miss with gender specific bikes, really depends on the rider.

The most important thing. Does the bike fit her and does she like it?

I think women's specific bikes make sense on a few accounts... one being their shorter reach numbers and two, their lower stand over height. As long as brands choose not to manufacture XS sized bikes it leaves people under ~5'1 few places to turn.
