I decided to go from a 2x to a 1x drivetrain. Currently have a RaceFace 32t chainring and 11-42t Sunrace cassette inbound. What are folks running when they move to 1x? Mine will be going on my XC bike (only bike).

I put a Shimano XT CS-M8000 11 - 46 cassette on my G1 Tallboy, used a SRAM long-travel derailleur, shifts fine. I kept my old XX crank and ground down the outer ring to use as a bash guard.

I am converting from SS to 34T vs an 11-50T SunRace Kit.

Am expecting only good things from this setup.

I thought 42T on rear was fairly big and the largest I have ever run but where I live the 50T I’m sure will come in handy.

I run a 36t chainring with 10-speed XT cassette with OneUp 40t cog (now 11-13-16-19-21-24-28-32-36-40) and XTR cranks and derailleur (27.5 wheels). Will either go with 11-42 Sunrace or 11-42 Shimano when mine wears out.

Anybody using the new Shimano 10-51 cassette? I don’t need that much range or 12-speeds, but I do like that Shimano now has a 10t cog.

My older 3x9 bike is 44/32/22 turning an 11-32 cassette with 26” wheels. I use 44 on roads, 32 on trails, and never use the 22.

Installed my 32t CR and 11-42t cassette. Can't shift to last cog. I ordered a 25mm b-screw and GoatLink for $20 to see if I can resolve without ordering a new derailleur.

Anyone else have similar issue when moving to a 1x10 setup?

I am running a 28T with an 11-42t cassette. Could probably go up to a 32 but like the option of the easy gear when I need it. Which is somewhat often right now when my fitness isnt the best.

Started with the stock 26/36 x11-42. Dropped the front to a 30 and kept the rear for now. 42 mostly gets it done but sometimes I wish I either had stronger legs or bigger plates in the rear cassette. Smile

32 front, 11-42 tooth rear.

Thought I’d miss having a low gear, but I’ve not really missed it, I just pedal harder.

Shimano 10s RD max is 36T stock. With 25mm Bscrew max 40T. With Goatlink n 25mm Bscrew, 42T no problem.

If SRAM 10s RD max 40T with Bscrew all in. 42T wee bit of clearance with top pulley.

I had a Deore Shadow long cage and installed a GoatLink and 11-42 cassette without issue.

Exactly the conversion I've just done. I worked out that with a 30 it works out to roughly losing one gear at the top and one gear at the bottom. I've been on it for a few weeks and no dramas so far. Glad I didn't go bigger on the front.

We have done many variations of the 1X conversion in the shop. Currently we are digging this set up:
Sram NX 11 spd long cage derailleur
Sram NX 11 spd shifter
Box 11-46 cassette
KMC X11SL chain
WolfTooth Stop-Drop chainring

Solid, crisp shifting setup at a reasonable price. The box cassette is very good for the price. It does't have that annoying 37t - 46t jump like the Shimano. It has a 40t - 46t on the low end. This makes it shift way smoother and last much longer.

It depends on your riding terrain and fitness. My XC has a 36T front with a SRAM 42-10 cassette, I can get up a 12 degree gradient slowly...

I’m modifying my kids bike to go from 2x11 to 1x for the upcoming NICA racing season. The bike went from one kid to the next. Kid raced 27.5 1x11 last year, and is going to a 29er this year.

Bike is an all SLX 2x11 23/36 front rear 11/46 Shimano freehub.

Converting to 1x SLX, thinking of:

Swap to 1x11 SLX 30t front, and 11/46(50t?)

Appreciate any input for partlist? (Chain, chainring, cassette)
Chainline?

Thanks
