Hi folks,

I have a 2000 Deep Cove (DC) Stiffee Beryllium/Aluminum hardtail, and it's usually been my 'kick-around' bike, but the original Hayes disc brakes have been discontinued, and I cannot find any pads. Also the old Manitou fork is in desperate need of a rebuild, but parts parts parts.

It has been to Utah, Colorado, Mt. Washington and the North shore, with me at the helm, so it's kinda sentimental.

The Shimano XTR/Deore gruppo has been bulletproof, brakes are the only issue.

Searched for replacements, to no avail.

If you owned this icon ( my opinion ) would you part out what you could and hang the frame somewhere, or just keep on searching for pads to keep this tireless workhorse going..?

Thanks,

-M.

If you love the bike still then just pick up some new (or at least newer used) brakes and fork.

That vintage of stiffee is really nice. I would just source new brakes for it.

If cost is an issue you could look for used, or lower end brakes like Clarks (you can get a full set for around 100$ from CRC) or even cable actuated, assuming you arnt getting aggro on the bike any more.

That's cool, about the Clarks, but would like to keep it 'original'.

And no, I'm pushing 47, so no more aggro. Sigh! Some guys start getting their legs at 50, so maybe...

Thanks cmcrawfo

Dredging up an older topic, but keeping my Stiffee.

Looking at new/used brakes to keep him running. Big Grin

It'll be fun riding a 26".. kinda like a BMX.

Happy Friday.

Good to see your still getting out there with that Stiffee at 47.
