I had a 2014 transition 29er 140 rear travel and although it climbed like a beast, it sucked at being a mountain bike.

Only way I'll go back is like this

-165mm + rear travel
- threaded bottom bracket
-157 hub spacing
- 2.6" + tire clearance
- trunnion mount shock
- supports 150mm + dropper
- capable descender
- aluminum frame

Who's got that?

No one. Go carbon and you can check nearly all the other boxes with a Pivot Firebird 29 (162 mm but close enough).

29ers have changed in the last 5 years, believe it or not. That's basically an eternity now in bike evolution.

When the Devinci Spartan 29er comes out it will check all of those boxes except 157 hub spacing.

No, the new Spartan 29 will also have superboost 157 spacing! And yes I know for shure.

So all boxes checked! (Not shure if they offer aluminium on the 29er though...)

Alas, the search continues...

Most of those seem pretty superfluous if I'm honest. In fact I'd say that there isn't one thing on that list that's absolutely vital to making a good mountain bike.

29ers have come on a lot. If you fancy one, then give a modern one a try. If not then don't.

Honestly, you sound like some of the old men I work with who think V6 engines are junk because they sucked in the 70s. Technology improves. If you refuse to acknowledge the advancement and want to stay on what makes you feel like it’s still the good ole days, no one is trying to stop you.

A frame is pretty vital, but other than that all this stuff is personal preference. I agree 29ers have come far, and I'm not following them. This thread was more phishing for some info that would point me towards a 29er that's close to what i asked for. Sounds like the new spartan will be worth a look. Also sounds like you don't have anything helpful to say

Norco Range... just missing super boost, but has boost. Also has 150mm rear travel... 15mm (or 1.5 cm) off.
