Hi everyone, total newbie and very amateur rider. Just getting into TF and looking up nearby rides. Why are some trails marked in purple and others left brown? Does it mean the brown ones are not sanctioned by the local council? Or is it simply that they haven't been 'rated' or 'added' to the website? And am I to assume that any track not mapped on TF is off-limits to MTB? Grateful for any help on this, Ian

If a trail is not on TF it doesn't necessarily mean it's not for bicycles, it might simply not have been added yet.

I assume you are refering to the colors of the trails of the base map, not the actual trails on TF?
The color coding of the trails has (as far as I know) to do with the type of trail, such as trail surface, not necessarily with whether or not biking is allowed, that's how it is in Belgium anyway.
For example both sides of this local river are reserved for cycling/walking, but one is asphalt (blue) and the other is gravel (brown).

You can refer to the map key of OpenStreetMap for clarification.

The brown tracks on the basemap are from OSM and are mostly gravel/dirt roads.
