What Bike Frame should I get?

My name is Eric and I live in Southern California. I am looking for a bike frame and my friends tell me 140-160mm is good enough for where I live. That being said, I need help on picking a new bike frame. Can anyone help me choose?

My budget is 1100 dollars but it can be a used frame just as long as it is a premium and not a walmart/target brand Smile

I current ride a Devinci Spartan Carbon and I plan to move all the parts to the new frame.

Reason I'm switching to a new frame is that I feel that 165mm of travel (which is on my devinci) is too much for the trails where I am located.
