Yes, that's the thing. GX Eagle seems to be hit and miss. I think I'm going to meet the seller with the 2018 and if everything works well, go with that. Otherwise go with the 2017. Trying it out seems the only way to be nearly 100% sure.

Hi Pinkbike users,
I want to buy a used Giant Trance and am considering both a 2017 Trance Advanced 1 and a 2018 Trance Advanced 1. I'm just wondering which you guys think would be a better choice, taking into consideration the fact that I can get the 2017 Trance Advanced 1 for $450 cheaper. Both are used and both are in good condition. The main differences are the drivetrain: Sram GX Eagle 1x12 on the 2018 model; Shimano XT 1x11 on the 2017 bike. Also, the cockpit on the 2017 Trance doesn't have the best of spec: narrow bars (750mm) and long stem (60mm). Just want to know what you think: Is it worth an extra $450 for the 2018 bike or not, in your opinion?
Thanks,
Philip

Hi there, I'm also looking at Trances. Any thoughts on the 15 and 16 year models?

PS. If you don't want this question taking up space on your thread Philip, I'll gladly delete it.
Cheers, Brad

I have a 2015 Adv 1, and upgraded to wider wheels, fork, shock and seatpost (to new Giant), so looking back, I would have been better starting with bare frame.
They improved the spec a bit in 2016, so depending on what models and $$, the '16 could be a better choice. But '17 got a new frame with trunnion shock so that would be better again.

Thanks. I don't wanna be upgrading a bunch of stuff post purchase, so probably smarter to look at newerish models.
