Hi All,

Might have a new opportunity ahead of mean which would mean a move to London for a month. Looking for a road bike to train with and ride around the city for that time.
Also looking for someone who would be interested in taking me mountain biking, I would be more than happy to rent a bike if anyone could be a guide.

Best,

MB

hi - it's been a while since I lived in London but there is some fun riding to the south of the city in Surrey which is easy to reach by train from central London. e.g From London Victoria to Dorking or Holmwood stations.

Not a great deal of elevation in the terrain but a lot of trails through the woods in the North Downs area. I would start by contacting some of the shops here and see if they do bike hire and a group ride you could join in

or just search for Surrey Hills MTB / North Downs MTB etc

as for road bikes, there would probably be somewhere in the city that will hire or you can hire one of the public rental bikes and do some resistance training!

Appreciate all the info! I'll definitely look into riding at Surrey Hills. Wasn't expecting too much elevation, but it is always nice to get out on the trails.

For a road bike is Gumtree or PinkBike the best place for me to find something decent? I would rather buy my own and either bring it home at the end or sell it while I'm still in the city.

yes you could get a bike on gumtree or other classifieds I guess, up to you to decide if it's worth the hassle for a month though! . Do you know where you will be staying and working?

I wouldn't say that 'sport' road cycling in and around London would be my first choice of activity to be honest. There's a lot of traffic and its not always bike friendly but there is a growing network of commuter / leisure routes that you can use to explore at a slower pace. Just for head down road bike training... not so great IMHO.

Hey, i live in watford and work in central london. Commute via road bike. Not exactly fun. Weekends i head to places like Aston Hill bike park for steeper stuff and swinley forest bike park for more chilled days. Both good. Swinley has decent Marin hire bikes if you just need to go for a ride.

Thanks so much! Will definitely check out Aston Hill BP while I'm there!
