Hello I have a 2016 Giant Reign. I am looking at replacing the 2x10 setup with a 1x12. I see that the gx cassette has 10-50 tooth cassette vs the 11-50 for the nx. The gx cassette would require upgrade to xd driver.
Would I notice the difference between the 10 vs 11 tooth?
I plan on doing a couple of enduro races this year.
I had a NX Eagle on my bike before i upgraded the cassette to a GX Eagle. Its helpful in speedsections but not game changing. So if you're into budget, 11-50 will be more than enough. There is also a Sunrace 11-50 cassette, which is cheaper and lighter than the NX cassette.
164 gram (.36 of a pound) difference between them. 10t vs 11t is almost no difference and with a 50t gear you could just upsize your chain ring if you feel you're missing top speed.
I've owned Sram x01 11 speed, X1 11 speed, and now GX eagle 12 speed. I also demo'd an NX 11 speed a few years ago, so not as much experience on it but still a pretty good idea. Literally zero performance issues between any of them. The only minor thing I've noticed is the GX and NX shifter takes more force to click it up and move up one gear. That's it. Like a tiny bit of effort more to push a button. It's like complaining about the buttons in two different elevators. Get whatever one you can afford, but you won't be disappointed with picking GX or NX.
