Ok can anyone tell me the purpose of the gear axle nut on my fox float 32. Just putting back together a 2012 trek rumblefish elite. Seems kinda stupid. Dont know why they didnt make the axle thread into the fork like my rockshok.

When they make the axles they machine the threads at random start points. So without the adjustable nut in the forks the handle on the axle would be pointing all different directions everytime. And also allows for less than perfect tolerances on the fork lower axle widths aswell.
Machining threads into lowers increases manufacting cost.
And could say that if some one strips there threads there easy to fix instead of being a write off like rockshox.
