I recently bought a Fox X2 off of a friend and we could not figure out why the shock would make squishing sounds after leaving the bike alone before and after rides. When I first hop on the bike, I have to compress the shock about 4-5 times before it stops making the sound and just goes back to normal. (minimal, normal air sound)
I'm not sure if I have to service the shock or if it's some sort of issue/damage.

Yes you need to send it to service, I'd warranty it if I could. The issue was somewhat known with the X2. There is some nitrogen leaking in the oil. If your friend bought it recently, I'll have him send it back to fox, they should fix it (they did with me) The issue will only get worse and you'll start loosing damping. I know for experience a bike without rebound damping is not very pleasant to ride.

So do I. 5 days in hospital with a punctured lung after getting pinged over the bars due to failed rebound.
Get it serviced, the 2019 has a different xring I believe which is meant to prevent this.

I can confirm it's still not 100% fixed on 2019 models ...

30 hours or so of riding on mine ( 2018 ) and started making this noise. Dampening has been reduced and the climb switch doesn't stiffen up the rear like it did. Bought on ebay as a new/takeoff so I guess I'll have to send it off to Avalanche.

I had a 2019 do the same thing after just a weekend of riding. Sent it to a friend working in the suspension business, he's making some custom orings to keep the oil and air separated, so far so good !

I have no idea, he's having them made (or he's picking from a list of existing orings, I don't even know). All I could find was an old Facebook post of his :

Right now it's interesting what your friend's getting. If he's playing with some realy custom orings - ask please dimensions.
