i have heard somebody talk about removing something on the yt jeffsy and then be able to fit another shock on the rear, to upgrade it from 150-160, is that true
im currently running a 230x60 shock and have heard about you can use a 230(i think) x 65?
You «just» have to install a 230x65 mm shock to get 160 mm of travel instead of 150 mm. The 5 mm difference roughly gives 10 more mm of travel on the rear wheel.
ia have the 27,5 so thats great, do anybody have a more exact number of how much extra travel i get ? will there be any problems with linkage hitting the frame ?
It's completely safe to do because the eye to eye remains the same (230mm). You effectively get an extra 5mm of shock stroke that translates to 10mm more travel at the rear wheel. Note that if you set sag by % (say 30%) you will be slightly further into shock travel/lower to the ground at the same percentage, but we are talking millimeters.
What shock do you have now? Most 230x60 and 230x65 shocks are identical with a simple travel limiter spacer on the shock shaft inside. Same with the big 250x70/75. This is to cut down on production/inventory costs. For Rock Shox Deluxe/Super Deluxe you have to cut a grey plastic spacer off, with the DVO Topaz (I have now) it's a c-clip you can remove without destroying it. Fox I believe is two 2.5mm spacers.
I have a 2017 Jeffsy 27 CF and did this mod recently on my bike.
