Just ordered a 27.5 rear wheel for my RM Instinct 2018.

I know I'm not the first person to think of doing this, but has anyone swapped the back wheel for 27.5 and left the 29 in the front? I know you can switch both and go 27.5 all around, but I like the feel of having a big wheel up front.

29 all around was great for all the XC~ish riding I was doing in Utah last season, but this year I'm back in Michigan and plan on hitting many more jumps than I did last season. With a cush core in the rear tire on a 29, it can be hard to get playful on jumps with that much weight to toss around. Also, I was sick of having to adjust spoke tension after landing sideways, even with a Stan's Arch MK3 (I never had this issue on 27.5).

I think that by going 27.5 in the back only, whips and whatnot will be easier to throw around. Also I'm hoping that I don't have to constantly be checking spoke tension like I had to with the 29er. To adjust for the slacked out head tube angle, I'll try riding in the 1 position to minimize the difference and go from there. I'm sticking with 2.3" tires in front and back right now for starters.

Is my thought process completely wack or does this sound like a decent solution?

Can’t say how I ended up here but anyway here is good discussion on the b9er thread... I currently run a 29x2.5 DHF front, 27.5x2.8 NN rear and the combo is pretty kewl.

Little bit more of a hassle getting a 27.5 bike to a 29er up front. I converted mine but it's not worth spending $1k on a new fork n wheel

I asked RM and they didn’t recommend it. Didn’t say why
