I am having trouble setting up my rear SAG on my new Stumpy 29er. I am aiming for 30%sag but I am having difficulties to get the right stroke travel to base my SAG.

The shock itself has a stroke of 50mm

From the seal to the end of the stroke I have about 40mm

But after having deflated the shock I can see that the suspension bottoms out at about 35mm from the seal. First of all, is this normal?

If it is, Which number should I take to base my SAG: 50mm, 40mm or 35mm? I would think that I should base it on 35mm since the suspension does not travel more than this but I could be wrong.

Thanks for your help,

Edouard
