I'm going to visit my friend in SF next week. I'll be there for about 10 days and I wouldn't mind making it a biking holiday. I'm just staying with him for 3 days and then I can do what I want after that.

So, I will have about a week free to do as I please. I am more than will to drive quite a distance away from SF. I will be flying out from there again about 10 days later. Suggestions of where I could go are more than welcome.

If you're going to Santa Cruz (1-1.5hr drive) or North Lake Tahoe/ Downieville (3.5-5hr drive) I'd definitely bring the bike. And it'd probably lean towards goin to SC, since SC is so nice that time of year plus you'll have less driving time from different networks of trails.

I rode for a week in the SF area earlier this year - Mt Tam, Tamarancho, Wilder Ranch, Tennessee Valley, Corte de Madera (Skeggs), a loop from Santa Cruz taking int he Emma McCrary trail. All of those rides are on mtbproject.com or I have gpx files if you want them. Smile

Oh that would be great. Thanks. The riding is pretty extensive around those places?

Most riding in the bay is more xc oriented and pretty mellow, however Pacifica which is around 30min from SF has some cool jumps and a cool tech trail, all of it is on Trail Forks.

Yeah mellow and xc describes the riding well. I liked Tamarancho best. Where do you want the gpx files?

Trailforks.

really though if you have limited time, skip Marin and ride Santa Cruz. I grew up in Marin and for just a couple days you're going to get better riding in SC.

Cool, anywhere to rent a bike? I figure the hassle of bringing my own when I might only get to ride it once isnt worth it.

I rented from https://www.cycleworks.bike/ in Santa Cruz, they even sent my pedals back to the UK when I forgot them.....#expensive mistake!

In Santa cruz you can also demo/rent from the actual Santa Cruz factory or ibis. The Soquel demo forest is a fun place to ride. It's basically a giant loop with different trail options to ride down. From a flowy jumpy trail to more technical trails. All shaded so you avoid the heat. There is some climbing though. Looks like most people do 2 or 3 loops per ride.

Soquel Demo is an awesome place to ride! Keep in mind, it is an all day ride and will be tough to get your demo bikes back to Ibis or Santa Cruz. Last time I checked Santa Cruz will rent/demo in 4 hour blocks. Clearly not enough time to ride Soquel. If you are like me, you will not want to race back to return your bike as opposed to enjoying one of the many great Crafties in the area.

Yeah, I'm thinking I will rent a car so I suppose gettig there wouldn't be a huge issue if I can get a few extra hours on the bike rental maybe?

Anyone want to show me around?
