Anybody tried to put a 230x65 instead of the original 60mm stroke on the meta am 29?

As i can see i maybe need to remove the mini fender from seat tube to get no rub.

I am also interested in any feedback on this as I am planning on Meta 29 AM build with Manitou Mezzer 180 mm up front and if I could get 170 mm in the back with 65 mm stroke shock that would be a win Big Grin

Interesting... I wrote to Commencal and they said that chainstay linkage part would hit in seat tube. You are saying that this is OK or that just tyre wouldn't hit the seat tube?

The bumper stop on DHX2 shaft don't let you use full travel

Maybe with hard hit or case the bumper squeeze enough to let full travel.

I'm gonna buy 230x65 x2 or dhx2 used and i will post my result with data here this winter

Has anyone fitted a 230 x 65 float x2 onto their meta am29? Picked one up for a good price and want to know whether it will function well.

sunday i will try with a super deluxe coil borrowed from a friend and post measurement and pictures

So i put the super deluxe 230x65 on my meta 29 large

With the DPX2 230x60 i got 6mm of clearance between seat tube and top rear brace WITH NO SMALL MUD GUARD

With mudgard it's roughly 4mm of clearance

The superdeluxe got approx 50mm visible stroke, 15mm remaining are hidden by the bumpstop

With no coil on shock, with my weight on the seat to simulate a moderate bottom out, i can easily compress the bumpstop and frame made contact with the small mudguard installed.

Without the mudguard, i believe it would still contact at every moderate to hard bottom out.

So at the end, NO

230x65 doesn't fit on meta 29 without contacting the frame.

Maybe with a custom spacer 230x62 would be the maximum effective stroke on this bike. it would give approx 165.3MM ( calculated with rule of 3 )

This may work.

If you use offset bushings in the extended position this should make up for the difference in clearance. This would technically steepen everything out front, but with a Works headset to offset the steepened HTA . And since both of these adjustments would push the seat tube forward you'd end up with a steeper STA about 78.5 and 170mm out back. BB and reach may be slightly affected but the Offset bushings and angleset should pretty much cancel each other out in that respect.

Hi. Found this thread and just looking for info if a 230x57.5 rear shock would fit my 2019 meta AM29. Saw a good deal on it.

Yes, it would fit perfectly fine, but you wouldn’t get full 160mm travel. Also watch out for the bottom mount, if it’s a 57.5 super deluxe, it’s very likely from a megatower which has a bearing mount which won’t fit.

Some of Trek bikes are on a 57.5 stroke as well, with different eyelets than the santa cruz's

Would 230x62.5 work?
Some bikes seem to use them now.

i just put a 230x62.5 bomber CR on my 2019 large with the small mudguard and without coil on shock it doesn't contact, i got like 2mm clearance even with the bumstop fully compress

short answer : yes
