The trail I ride is on public land, it is shared by walkers, snowshoers, and a high school cross country running.
I'm one of the only mountain bikers to use it, and also to maintain it. I cut trees and clear branches and leaves and rock.
recently lots of dead trees have been falling over onto my trail, at first I thought it was the wind, so I cleared them away.
Then more trees fell, so I cleared them, now trees that still have leaves have started tiping over... every two days I go out and trees have fallen... I think its kids from the local High school, What should I do?

Are the trees dying or diseased ? whats the ground like?
as this provides support for the root base of the tree.
There are many reasons for this which are not always obvious,
generally what you can do is try and support new growth.

When clearing you trail of fallen trees, put them in a clearing to the side,
if safe to do so ( downhill zig zag trails lend well to rolling trees for eg )
this will provide a habitat for small beasties, bugs etc, help the eco
system that live in this enviornment, the trees trap carbon so allowing
them to rot slowly will release this slowly whilst feeding the soil in there
rotting, in tern feeding and supporting new plant growth.

Invasive species, disease, changing climate and human involvement all take
there effect, you could perhaps contact your local authority, who should have
an enviornmental department or similar who are best able to handle such matters,
or at least be able to give you details of who best to contact.

I dont know how it works in you part of the world, but here in Scotland we have
a number of local authority departments that can be contacted on such matters.

I mean I'm not an expert but try a game camera if you can find one for cheap. If it is the high schoolers call the dean at the school and talk about where to go from there.

Good idea for the trail cam!

unexpectedly some generous soul came threw with a chain saw and cleared the biggest trees!

I'd go along and lean on the trees besides the trails and if they are unstable push them off trail.
