Ok this one stumps me. Replacing a M9100 Shimano12-spd XTR chain. It has “Shimano CN-M9100” “XTR” and “QJ” stamped on the link plates.

Bought what I thought was the same chain. New chain has “Shimano CN-M9100” and “HG” stamped on the link plates. I know the HG designation for hyperglide, but never heard of QJ??? Doesn’t say XTR either, but M9100 should be XTR...

Same chain? Different? Never seen the QJ designation before and google is not helpful at all. Been told using the right chain is important for this drivetrain.

Those 2 letters are the date code, so it can be traced to a specific batch. If both chains say M9100 you've got the right chain.

Did not know the date code thing, thanks for that!
