anyone know what the downside is to mulleting without the link (besides slackening)? I put the stock link back in and mulletted, and the bottom bracket is much lower (from the absurd stock height which I think is like 356), and it's feeling much more controlled. Just wondering if there's some leverage or some shit that I'm creating that I didn't consider.

Dig up from the past.

Did you try this one?
Has anyone else?
Looks a direct copy of the WRP for less....

I'm looking for anyone that has tried this 27.5 rear link. It is made by a UK maker, Coggan

Thanks for the feedback (above).
For the price I think I'll get it.

Then aim to upgrade the Zeb damper to 3.0 and maybe Mullet it on a ex511.

Annnnd change them tires!

I have a mullet link from Rhode Fabrication. Very similar to the one you posted above except it comes from the US. People have told me maybe Rhode was the first to make that link instead of WRP? I have no clue but WRPs price is insane, considering specialized sells the original link for $30.

It's nice to have the option for mullet. Mullet is defo more playful and 29er much faster, been racing my bike 29 for enduros

I know forum posting wont solve this but this is what I've got in case anyone ever has something similar. The 205x60 SD Select air is fine and doesnt do either of these things. Rides well enough and is silent.

Shocks are installed and torqued to spec in the correct order. There are no bad bearings or loose bolts.

Superdeluxe Coil - 205x62.5 - untuned out the box, serviced recently. Knocking that sounds like lack of pre load or a loose suspension linkage bolt. Bag of spanners to ride. Doesnt appear to over-extend.

Ohlins TTX22 m.2 Coil - 205x60-65 (tried both). Tuned, feels ok to ride but definitely introduces knocking and vibrations into the frame, feels like its over extending and I've tried to show this in the video. I think thats where the problem is.

Ill double check with the people that tuned it, see if I can get it 'de-tuned' and then probably sell it and just stick with the SD Select.

I'd recommend taking it to a suspension expert. I've heard sometimes with the ttx coil the ifp pressure was too low. I'm sure a suspension shop could tell you the issue.

It's been back, there was a problem with the rebound or something hence it smashing the back of the linkage and feeling like it wanted to over extend.

On its way back, so hopefully be OK.

Rode Dyfi bike park on it with the superdeluxe select (kept to the reds and some blacks) and it was like a sofa, handled real nice and just ate up everything in its way. Its the first bike I've had that's made me want to pedal as fast as I can down steep and rough stuff.

Headset worked loose on the first run despite threadlock on theswat tool bolt, it's almost like the float in the upper bearing seat allows the bearing to move under braking bumps and then doesn't return to its original seat.

Going to have to revisit the ptfe tape or look for another solution. Its massively frustrating and I think unless the headset issue can be worked around its going to have to go in the bin and I'll look at something else.

CK headset and you’ll be all good. Two years on one and it has never loosened on me.

Im on a CK as well, but i've got the same problem with the floating, if i tighten it the normal way how it should be,its always lose and floating around, now its so strong Tighten that it doesnt float anymore...

I’ve had my enduro for a few months and it’s been great, once I got the headset to stay tight!

Today I had a small otb and the chainstay met a sharp rock. It looks like a decent crack, although I haven’t scraped off the paint to check yet.

I wondered what happened when everyone got new frames due to headset cracks. Was the whole frame replaced or just new front triangles? Did the bike shops take back the cracked frame?

Are there a whole bunch of second hand chain stays out there, and if not are they easily available and reasonably priced from specialized?

Edit: I’m in Colorado, had just started out on a road trip loop from Colorado Springs to Moab

There are some out there in the used market.

Specialized is usually fairly good about having spares available. You’ll have to go through a dealer though. Something that can be challenging on a road trip.

They give you a whole new frame. My comp recently got replaced with an s-works in 2 weeks.

Does anyone have experience with the Transition Spire? Curious to hear some thoughts with how it rides compared to the current Enduro.

Thanks.

If I recall correctly, when the Spire was launched NSMB.com did a comparison to the Enduro, which was seen as one of the best (at the time). If you poke around that site you may find it. Can't recall if the comparo was made at the First Look, or In Depth Reiew stage.

My current bike is the enduro but I have ridden a friends spire a couple of times, spire feels like a monster truck it absorbs everything, braking bumps are much less noticeable. Being the size medium (specialized s3 correspondent), the reach is longer and also the chain stays, the bike is more of an hassle to corner, being in my opinion less agile and flickable. I think the enduro is a more balanced bike, the spire is also amazing but will require more input going into corners. Both of them are amazing. Coincidently the spire also has problems with the head tube.

FWIW I have a Size L Patrol (2022 Alu. @170/170mm) and S4 Enduro (@180/180mm).

Guy in my riding group has a L Spire Carbon and while I haven't ridden it looks to be the same bike but with a 29er out back.

The Patrol feels very small bike but with modern chain stay, wheelbase and head/seat angle numbers, its strange, when seated the reach feels short (like the geometry is from 5 years ago) but get out the saddle and the reach seems to increase to where it feels right, suspect the steep seat angle is to blame? My gripe is it just feels like a small bike which I guess is what they were going for reading the website... I dont really like it on stuff I'd ride with the Specialized Enduro and I never really felt like it 'fit' my 6ft frame even though the geometry figures seem to suggest its quite a big bike.

While its supposedly an enduro bike, I think it feels like a small bike thats best suited to park, its a completely different bike to the Enduro which is a big old truck, I think the Enduro is knocking on DH bike territory and the Patrol is a more playful trail bike.

I think the 27.5 rear and shorter rear triangle most likely causes that small bike feel, that said, I also have an S4 Gen3 Levo and that doesnt feel anything like the patrol size wise. Its closer to the Enduro.

The spire's slack front end figure was what put me off. I would have put it up to 180mm so the figured would have been ridiculous. That said Ive come close to buying the Spire frame a couple of times.

That is the steep seat tube angle that you is making the bike seem small. The enduro has a much more moderate seat tube angle so you will be more stretched out when seated. I'd be surprised is Specialized didn't steepen the seat angle a bit on the new Enduro.

Even so stood up and out the saddle it just feels like a small bike to me. Looks small too, apparently.

In low, the Enduro reach is 487 vs 475 in low on the Patrol.

Its not hard to see why it feels smaller lol
