Bikes For Small People

Yo PB!! Let's see how many people can shred me for my dumb questions.

I'm in the market for a bike for my wife. She's 5'2 and is a pretty average rider. She wants full suspension, but doesn't need a ton of it. The latest bike trends have smaller travel numbers with bigger wheels. She demo'd a few 29rs but hated them. She preferred her '14 Specialized Safire to the new 29" wheels.

She thought they felt unwieldy and got her butt buzzed several times. Why don't bike MFG make small trail bike with smaller wheels???? I'm thinking a 110-120mm 26 or 275 bike w/ modern geo. The closest thing I've found to what I think would be perfect for her is the Norco Optic in a 27.5" wheelsize and the Liv Intrigue.

Do any manufacturers still make a 26" smaller travel option? Do you guys think that a new spec'd 27.5 w/ smaller wheels would work just as well?

A 27.5 in size S should do, that's what my girlfriend, who is pretty small too, is using currently, and she is fine with it. 29 wheels are not meant for small bikes.

I see you mentioned the Liv Intrigue already which is a good option, but if you could find a Liv Pique 27.5 (Womens version of the Giant Anthem 27.5) that would be closer to the 110-120 travel range you mentioned. In Canada it seems they're 29 only for 2020, but IDK what country you're from and whether or not they'd have a 27.5 available, or if any shops in your area have any leftovers from 2019 you could maybe score one on sale

I don't know what your budget is but you could also check out the Juliana Furtado (Womens version of the Santa Cruz 5010)

EDIT: I check the States' site and looks like 2020 is all 29 for the Pique as well, maybe use their website to find what stores might have them in stock

I'm just 5'1" and the 27.5 wheels on a small frame works great! I like my 26" too but the 27.5 is so much faster and able to clear everything on the trail so much more efficiently. (Mine is Kona Lana'i)

My wife who is 4'11" is on a extra small Trek Fuel Ex 8 with 27.5 wheels and she loves it. I believe Trek also sells the size small Fuel Ex in 27.5 version, so there's at least two sizes with small wheels from Trek that should work for her. Don't confuse these tiny 27.5 Treks with the 27.5+ bikes that they offer in the larger sizes either!

"SO MUCH" faster??? Do you realize a 275 wheel is 3.7% larger than an 26 wheel? "A bit" faster might be more like it.

Check this out! Emily's also 5'2" and this is her race fully w/ 275 wheels. Seems pretty solid.
