A wild guess --Grim donut might just be a spoiler for the industry's profit source for the next 1-2 decades. And the manufacturers got together and made them pull the plug on this project.

The industry was going to milk the head tube angle for a good 10 years (realistically 64" degrees might be the absolute minimum rideable angle) and then the seat tube angle for another 5-6 years, with slightly longer chainstays thrown in. By the time all this is done, 26" wheels just might be cool again.
