Thinking zeb 170 and coil

Anyone went 180 at the front ?

Fox 38 180 / DHx2 / Enve AM30 / Cane Creek Ewings

Ready for Whistler! DH machine now

Trek Slash Project One Fox 38 - 180mm Fox DHx2 Cane Creek Ewings Enve Am30

Trek Slash Project One Fox 38 - 180mm Fox DHx2 Cane Creek Ewings Enve Am30

How are you liking the 180mm fork and coil? I just got a Slash after being on the HP Range. I'm not loving the descending characteristics or lack of traction compared to the Range. I was thinking of bumping up to 180 to slacken it a bit, ideally with a 38 over the Zeb (better small bump and support imo). Coil seems like a no brainer too.

I pedal to steep DH trails and have been on 63/63.5 HTA bikes the last few years. I guess my question is, can this be made into a sled? haha

Bottom shock bearings are gubbed already

It is manufacturing issue. The bearings are most likely fine, the spacers and lower shock widths are too narrow, so tightening the bottom mount going to seize the bearings. You can add thin extra washers to fix this problem.

Same with me. 6 month old bike. Bottom shock bearings are seized. I have a theory on this. The thru shaft is fixed. The bearing hardly moves and all that force is directly transferred to a real small bearing causing it to seize.

Guaranteed if it was standard eyelet style shock the bearings would be fine.

I need to chase the shop up.
Think it might be a case of rotating the shock bearing every few rides. . I also think this area retains water like a bucket.
Im going to give this area some marine grease and change it every few rides.
I really like the rear standard shock , but it isnt perfect with the shitty bearings

I gotta be honest, im not a huge fan of bikes with Eyelet or Bearings in the shock mounting, Every single bike ive owned thats had them has had issues especially the rocky mountain ride 9 ones - gave excellent feeling but Id get maybe 3 or 4 rides before the balls in the bearings split and basically locked it up which went on to ruin the bolt, the first and 2nd time the bearings ended up locking and spinning on the bolt and i couldnt remove the bolt as it created a "lip"

For Reference i had the original first run of the slash 8 in 2020 and my lower bearings were toast after a few rides. - the top bearings wernt much better and i think i ended up breaking a bottom bolt. i also had to put all the bolts in before doing any up at all. otherwise if i did the bottom before the top it didnt line up(i worked on a friends my22 slash 8 and its still not aligned lol)

A friend of mine mentioned he wont use eyelet designs untill frame QC is any good(and honestly we have along way to go)

Im not a moto person but do motos use bearings like this?

A) new colours & MY23 specs available on website ✨

B) Does anyone know the spoke length for a Line Elite 30 rear wheel (MY21+)?

Noticed they got rid of the thru shaft on the 2023 models and bumped the prices.

Absolutely OUT OF CONTROL prices..... 3 years the prices have nearly doubled.
DTC brands(canyon) with BETTER specs are more than 3k cheaper now here. for e.g canyon spectral XT and fox performance elite (grip2) ex511 wheels etc $7150+ shipping. = 3500NZD cheaper for a better specced bike...

*new zealand prices

Hello all,

I am looking at building a Slash in the future and starting to gather parts. I have searched this thread but couldn't find the answer.

My question is I see that the Carbon frame options (in XL) have a 200MM dropper.

However the Aluminum frame (in XL) comes with a 170MM dropper.

I am honestly not sure what frame I will get (carbon or AL) or even if you can buy the AL frame by itself this year or if it was every offered by itself.

But I am 6'4'' 225-230lbs ready to ride and wondering if the 200MM Bontrager Line Elite dropper will fit into both frames fully inserted?

I have a Roscoe 8 XL 2023 model and my seat post is about 25mm from fully inserted and it fits perfectly. I know this is like comparing apples to oranges but just for reference. So if the 200mm in a slash is very close to fully inserted I should be okay.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Choose "Sizing & Tech" then it's in the FAQ - 2021 Slash document.

Thanks!

Surprised I couldn't find that info as I looked all over Trek's website and here, guess I didn't look in the correct area.

So 310mm is the depth and the post is 550mm total minus the 200mm travel making the length left 350mm. This doesn't include the collar or distance from seat to extension area.

In theory it should set in with less than 30mm out of the seat tube?

Was looking at the incorrect price.

Still 3,719.99 US

has anyone at Trek addressed the quick to fail bottom shock mount bearings? i have a total of 4 rides on my 2022 9.8 and the bottom shock mount bearings are toasted. looks like a spacer issue?

They no longer spin freely, therefore do not act like a pivot. The fault as stated above is the shock mount kit is narrow or the two spacers needed to be thicker. The narrow mount causes the bearings to be loaded up on the axial plane. The inner and outer race is now off set causing the balls to be loaded up and doesn't take long before the bearing is TOAST
