I’m brand new to mountain biking and I mean brand new. I’ve only gone a few times with a bike that didn’t even have shocks, I’m looking at a Gary fisher Y model bike for 300$. I looked it up and saw it’s from 1996! Is it worth 300$ with regular wear and tear? Is it even worth $300 in great condition?! Help!

It would be a start up bike for me, but I still don’t wanna throw away $300

No bike from 1996 is worth buying in my opinion. Find a hardtail from 2 to 5 years ago costing 600 new that you could buy for half the price now. If your budget is 300.

300 for a bike that is 24 years old sounds like quite a lot. Personally I wouldn't pay that unless I was looking at a retro build.

As a comparison, I sold a 2005 Gary Fisher Cake 2 Deluxe for $400 2 years ago. It was outdated by today's standards, but quite a jump upward from mid-'90s tech.

There are some decent bikes for sale on here for around your budget. Check the Buy / Sell section.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I actually test rode it cuz I had already committed to, but man. I wouldn’t have paid $50 for it. You could feel every single year of age!!!

Look into a Trek marlin 7.
