I'm probably going to get flamed at by saying this, but I don't care. Give me your worst.
I just want to ask to all the people out there to please refrain from thinking that putting up a "what bike should I get" or "what bike is the best" threads will give you an instant fix, without you needing to do any work.
First of all, the bike that is best for you will vary from personal preference, body type, type of riding, level of skill, budget, etc. etc. etc.. None of us on here can tell you expactly what bike will be best. The most we can do is throw a bunch of names and you, and suggest you try them out. Something you can easily do by using Google, which, btw, would be faster than waiting for a response.
Secondly, do you see that search tool at the top of the forum? It's there for a reason. Type in a bike name, or heck, even type in "what bike should I get" and you'll get a tonne of results. I swear, 1 in 10 threads are some kid asking what bike he or she should get. Don't just hop on here, get an account, and post the thread right away. Do some research first. Go to your LBS. Ask some people you know/meet and ask if you could give their bike for a *light* test ride. I'm sure they'd let you, if you promised to pay for anything you might break (just don't break it. ). Get a feel for some of the stuff that's out there, narrow the list down, do more research, then ask on here with a very specific post.
www.mtbr.com is your friend. Not the forum, mind you, the database. It'll help you out more than we can on here. Again, Google reviews on the bike. I'm sure you'll find at least one. The work you do yourself will be more useful than getting other people to do the work for you.
If you do come down to a short list of bikes you can't decide on, then post on here, and we'll help you out the best you can. I know I'm repeating myself here, but it's so important for you to be *very* specific as to who you are (body), what type of riding you want to do, what your bike options are, what your budget is, and so on. Don't just put up one of those "I need a bike, what should I get." It's far to vague. We could suggest anything from a hardtail XC bike to a $6,000 DH bike, and it won't help you at all.
So for all of you guys who are out there, lookin for a bike. Do your part first, and then we can do ours.
Rant over.
If anyone wants to add to this, be my guest. It's 3:30 in the morning, and I've been at work forever. I can't think up everything...
Nobody is willing to actually do their homework. Before you even ask a question, you need to sit down and make sure your asking the RIGHT questions.
If some people spent as much time researching their bike purchase as they did searching for porn, they would find they would be having way more fun on the trails.
But in the end, as long as your on the bike that everyone else wants or thinks is the best, your the cool guy right?
I'd like to add a little something to this: Instead of putting "what's the best" as the thread title, try something like "what [object] do you have, and what do you think of it?"
