I’m interested in getting a 2021 Ransom 920. Been searching everywhere online, and came across a few issues with the 2019 / 2020 ransoms. It sounds like a lot of people (on mtbr) were having issues with the frame.

One issue was the trunnion mount bolts were bottoming in the shock not allowing them to be torqued up, resulting in vertical play (Scott’s supplied shims to fix this, I’m assuming this is rectified on newer models).

Another has been there are IGUS bushings that sit in the frames lower shock mount and get worn out regularly. They are proprietary and need to be ordered in as part of a kit from Scott.

Another issue seems to be that the shock is free to move laterally 1-2mm and this is part of the design?

My other concern is the twin loc, I hate the birds nest of cables, but it sounds like it is complicated to remove this system and it can potentially stuff the forks up if you remove it?

If any owners of a 2019/2020 ransom have experience with these issues I keenly wait your response. Thanks Smile

Hi, maybe not most helpful advice from my side, but anyway I saw your post and only can give hint. I can´t honestly speak for alloy versions, but I own 2020 910 ransom. Actually bought it second hand from friend who I know rode it hard for half season in BP. I put good 500km on my in true enduro terrain with lot of DH trails and big jumps (I have no mercy with my bikes I like sideways landings, hard corners and Im not example of bike maintenance guy neigher :-)) but rearend and shock of the bike there is no even slight play anywhere - shock/shock mounts and bearings are super rock solid in linkage - and never been touched in 1500-2000km of riding. In comparison with shitty headset which was completely dead after few months :-). Im not advocate the bike, but just sayn - maybe it was some production lots issue - or if you come across ransom which have play in shock already just leave that concrete bike... p.s I weight around 170lb so relatively slim guy

mmm play in the shock.
im just an engineer, so play ina critical part for me equals "broken - replace". part of design my a3s.
no ... the shock will not have play.

ever bust the shock mount on your car? it will handle woefully and unexpectedly.

I have been riding a MY21 Ransom 920 for over six months now, let me comment on your questions:

- Lateral play at the trunnion mount - My Trunnion bolts were ok, the slight side play actually happened because the black anodized aluminium bits that are torqued by the said bolts were too long, maybe half a mm each. I cannot understand why would this be but I have fixed it by sanding down the extra length (between the two pieces). no side play and the shock pivots efforlessly on the trunnion mount. Just be sure not to remove too much or the bolts will bind the shock when properly torqued.

- Vertical play at the trunnion mount - Also had this issue, SCOTT has some grey bushings with a tighter tolerance for this, they look the same as the original ones but.. zero vertical play with these installed.

- Twinloc - No complaints about the stock shock other than missing lsc/hsc/lsr ajustment. You can use a different shock but mind not all aftermarket shocks have the clearance to work or clearance for the ajusters. be sure to study this before changing out the shock. For example, a MY21 DHX2 will hit the frame but previous DHX2s are compatible if you use the hsc/lsc version without manual lockout (check Brendan Fairclough's Transmadeira bike.). If you plan on losing twinloc, you should also upgrade the damper on the fork or at least change the cable actuated 3 position compression ajjstment for the manual grip ajuster.

cheers

Own a 2020 ransom 920 and I have no complain. No play on the shock side, I have already dismount, remount this shock for maintenance, no problem. Twinlock work very well, usefull for climbing ( better seat angle , no bop...) and full lock-out very cool to outdrag roadees when climbing on the road ( for ex. Mont Ventoux) to reach a cool enduro descent. But if you want, it should not be complicated to remove the câbles.

The only "issue" would be to put blue locktite to the suspension bolts to prevent them to loosen ( it happend)

Sorry for my bad english!!!

Have a good ride- Lolo from France

How did you get these new bushings? Through your Scott dealer or directly from Scott? By any chance, do you have a part number for these new bushings?

I recently installed a RWC needle bearing kit, and my frame has seemed to develop some vertical play. Not sure if this is related or not...

I was having some creaking issues with my 2020 ransom tuned, I did change all the bearings including the BB one, sadly I discovered today that the the noise was coming from the frame, it broke right in the middle of the junction, I couldn't see it in the first place because this area was protected with some transparent tape that kept the paint in place, after I removed it I was able to see a broken frame. Quite sad about this, I'm supposed to go riding in a few days, hope Scott france will ship this part fast. [
