Got my replacement frame, treated myself to a new shock too.
hey, specialized have agreed to replace my 2020 stumpy evo with a 22 stumpy evo s works frame, as the 2020 models arnt available anymore.
i can see that the strut/yoke looks like aluminium, Are the replacements actually s works or are they just normal frames with that branding on? i assumed that the s works framesets come with a carbon strut..
one of my friends got the carbon link with his warranty frame but mine has the aluminum. Besides that link the s works frame is the same as the regular carbon frames. I would have preferred the frame only option frame as I like the color better.
Someone here as any tips for replacing the stupid headset bottom cup, bearings and crown race on this bike?
Whatever what im doing, it take 30 miles and start creaking on every bump i get. My girlfriend bike is doing exactly the same.
Is there a way to get ridden of those stock pieces of aluminium foil that let all the shits penetrate everywhere and replace it with standard parts every other brands use?
Any professional help will be really appreciate.
The bike is amazing but i can not tolerate a bike that is creaking on every root or rock i ride on and i dont have enough time in life to spend cleaning and greasing a headset every ride.

Carbon shock yoke is defiantly standard on the S-Works complete bike or frameset in 22. They probably skimp on the warranty frames and send them out with alloy ones unless you get lucky and get a carbon one.

Mine did that too, I went to an automotive shops and got the thickest grease they had, cleaned everything and regreased. No creak in a year! Good luck

I used muc off bio grease and Mines never made a noise, on the adjustable 2022 carbon frame anyway. @MtberQC do you have an alloy or carbon frame?

I have the 2022 carbon. So disappointing.
I usually use the BelRay grease. I started with that.
Last week i cleaned everything and tried Anti seize on the parts that are in contact with the carbon and the fork.
I’m not really skilled with different bearing angles but do you know a crown race that we could use to replace the default one? I mean one that is not splitted in half. That would already eliminate a mooving part.
I will wait for other comments and try with ticker grease if it’s the only solution..
super weird, i Have 5 months on my expert frame, I refreshed it last month as those cups make me nervous with brand new ones(no real reason but piece of mind.) its the quietest bike ive owned. - but i also dont ride in mud etc so no chance of mud/dirt ingress.

Trails here are chunky and we got more rain than usually recently. However, i never experienced that with a bike and owned many brands.
By curiosity, what are your setup with angles guys?
I move mine frequently, 21 Carbon with just about 1k miles and I just use Phil Grease, not exactly heavy stuff. Never creaked except the first time that I didn’t get it all settled in before torquing it down.

What you mean exactly by « all settled in » ?
Just being certain that the bearings are all seated, the upper bits are all pushed all the way down, etc. I find that it's easy to have things a little loose, but still be able to tighten the star nut down, which leads to obvious play when you go to actually ride. I find it's easy to have a little play in the lower bearing, especially when the top cup is in the steep setting.

I see thanks.
Now i just recleaned, greased with this Muc off Bio to test and i also replaced the custom crown race by one pressed into the fork.
As usual, no creak now and probably no creak for the first ride. I hope it will stay like that.
A periodic creak from the back when the shock is unloaded after being loaded.
I used anti seize on shock bolt to try bit the same. Will eventually dismount all the bike, clean, grease and torque if all is good for the headset, which i really hope for.
Hi All, I know there’s been a lot of talk about shocks & setups. I just wanted some advice/opinions. I own Stevo comp, comes with the Float X shock. I love the bike but it really doesn’t feel that great on the rear, I can’t really explain it, just feels harsh I guess. My previous bike had 150mm travel so I know how it should feel & understand it’s limitations, it just doesn’t feel great at all. I don’t have a great deal of money for upgrades now. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you
