Apparently endurance athletes are more susceptible to it, since their heart rate is lower than most people. When I was diagnosed, the Dr said there was another cyclist in that week, too
Initially I thought I pulled/tore my calf muscle on a hard ride: lower leg swelled up and I gave it a couple days before going to the hospital. I had never heard of it before, but it can be FATAL so if anyone gets swollen calves get it checked out ASAP. I also ended up with a Pulminary Embolism in my lung, which is even more serious
Anyway I am looking for advice so I can get back to riding: Has anyone successfully returned to riding after something like this? I have prescribed compression socks but they don't seem very effective
Additionally, it seems I have Post Thrombotic Syndrome, which is when your blood valves are damaged by DVT and the blood pools in your leg, since it can't get back up to your heart properly. Am on blood thinners, likely for the rest of my life
Beware, you do not want to end up with this!! it's a real pain in the ass
But again, I am trying to get back to riding, somehow. Thanks for any advice!
