What up guys! I’m am building up a 2018 gt la bomba and I am getting a wheel set built..my question is I look on the web site and says that 2018 la bomba has 15mm drop outs but then it also says it takes a 3/8 by 17 female bolt? I measured the drop out and they are 15 mm but when trying to order wheel set All they offer is 135x10mm bolt or threw axel or 142x12 threw axel? If any one can shed some light on this would be a huge help. Ordering my wheel set threw profile profile elite cassette single speed hub.

got a link to what you are seeing?

15mm dropouts sound strange, where are you measuring that at?

3/8 with 17mm bolt on is just bmx language instead of mtb

3/8 is the rear axle size for bmx bikes, which is basically 10mm
17mm is the rear bolt socket size for the bolt on style hub, its the size of wrench you need to tighten it

the pics i see of that frame sure looks like a normal 135x10 rear end with built in tensioners

but if you measure 15mm then that would be concerning and not something im familiar with, pics would help as well

for reference on my frames the dropouts are ~10.5mm so the 10mm axle slides in and tightens up nicely, and i have both a mtb style 135x10 axle (hadley), and a bmx style female bolt on hub (ns rotary)

3/8" solid axle, as stated above, is a BMX standard, but also older standard in mtn bikes. A 3/8" axle is 9.525mm (25.4mm/8×3=9.525mm).

FWIW, I ride a Haro Steel Reserve dirt jumper that came from the factory with 3/8" solid axles. My new rear wheel utilizes a Hope Pro4 single speed/trials 10mmx135mm bolt axles. That may help. I verified with Haro that this would work prior to purchase. If your bike is 3/8" x 135mm, this should also work for you.

FWIW, it doesn't look like a standard "bmx" 3/8" axle in pictures. Can you post close up pictures of your rear axle and chain tensioners?

So I measured the width and it said it was a 142.. here the links to the specs page https://99spokes.com/bikes/gt/2018/la-bomba
Ya I’ve never heard of 15 mm drop out so been super confused and I need a wheel set ASAP as Iam leaving town soon.

2020 tech info
https://www.gtbicycles.com/media/MY20-GT-Techbook(1).pdf
page 26 shows 135x10

2019 tech info

page 22 shows 135x10

2018 isnt listed and 2017 doesnt have the labomba in the document, but all those years of frames look identical in the dropout area to me...

the "15mm Horizontal Adjustable Dropout w/ Integrated Chain Tensioners" is poorly worded
they are saying the built in adjustable chain tensioners allow 15mm of adjustability
they are not saying it uses a 15mm axle in the dropout

i would put my money on it being 135x10 and would be very very surprised if it wasnt

So I have it at this bike store not gonna lie they kinda suck they don’t know shit buy he said he measured it and said it was 15mm? And then measured and said it needed a 142x15 so lol maybe they just suck that bad and he was measuring it wrong

I'd say the la Bomba is 10x135mm as most dj frames are 10x135mm.

So finally figured it out I just hit up David lieb on the gram was super cool he rides for gt and la bomba his model and he said that the 2018 came with drop out adapters that let u run two different options for axels so the guy who sold me the frame had no clue what they were and didn’t send them
With the frame so now I got to hunt these things down pain in the ass lol

gt part number K86019 LaBomba Axle Adapters and Hardware

https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/tools-c10/tool-spares-c184/gt-labomba-axle-adapters-and-hardware-p24563

this is what you need

looks like includes adapters for 10 or 12mm axles as well as der hanger setup

i know there are similar looking but probably different sized adapters for bmx bikes like these
https://www.planetbmx.com/shop/neptune-3/8-to-14mm-axle-adaptors.html

but ive never seen this design on a dj frame, learn something new every day

hope you get it all sorted out and working well

no promise they fit, but might be worth trying out if you cant get the gt ones from the uk easily

also im sure a metal shop could machine you some spacers if you brought in the frame and wheel for them to measure

good luck, what a pain in the rear
