I had an order in for the 2021 Stumpy Evo Expert, was stoked for the bike. However, my LBS informed me last month that Specialized won't be sending anymore of the'21s, but they can get me a 2022 in a couple months. What are your thoughts on the 22's? It's kind of hard to stomach a 20% ($1,000) price hike for what appears to be a fairly similar bike.

LBS also said they can get me a Comp for $5,000 (what I would have paid for the '21 expert). What are your thoughts on that bike? Should I just look at different brands at this point. Thanks for your thoughts.

I had the exact same thing happen except I had ordered a 21 comp instead of an expert. My LBS has the 22s in stock already (Calgary, Alberta Canada). I didn't like the change from SLX to GX so I turned down the 22. (it was also $500 CAD more than I had paid for the 21).

I have a 21, but there are certainly some nicer things on the 22, the One Up dropper is much nicer than the XFusion, and would have been 210 on the 21 for my S5 instead of the 170 that I got.

The Float X should be much improved over the DPX2, even over mine with the Cascade link installed, which greatly improved things over stock.

The DT Swiss 370 hubs have the star ratchet instead of the 21's 360 with the stupid 3 pawl setup. I'd likely replace either as I'm not a fan of DT Swiss hubs in any form, but the star ratchet is much nicer than any 3 pawl design and you can upgrade it to the 54t later if you wanted to.

The cassette is also the XO1 on the 22 instead of the GX on the 21, which saves some weight, if you're into that sort of thing. And you get an aluminum chainring in place of the previous steel one.

Is all of that worth a grand? Nope, but it's worth something, and it was sort of dumb luck finding a 21 anyway. Would I spend $6k to get the new one? Absolutely, it's a freaking brilliant rig.

Oh, and compared to the Comp, you're getting the GRIP2 damper in the fork over the Rhythm damper, the shock is also listed as Performance Elite on the Expert vs the Comp getting the Performance, so if that has anything to do with the HSC, I'd certainly say it's a worthwhile upgrade too. You do get Diety grips, the One Up post over the X Fusion, XO1 over GX, and the DT Swiss hubs and handmade wheels, the 21 Comp wheels were about 300g heavier than the Expert, I'd imagine that's still true too, nicer hubs, nicer spokes and handmade instead of machine laced. Just for the suspension differences, I think it's worthwhile, unless you just really prefer a color on the Comp.

Got the bike today! I have to say the blue color is alot nicer in person than on the photos, pops alot more. I'm gonna ridewrap it and go for a test ride hopefully this week!

Thanks for your pics. It looks actually much better than I thought. Nice color.

How does that Float X feel? I am thinking of getting one.

Sorry for not posting an update.

I have a dozen rides on the bike now, tried out all the HTA adjustments as well as low and high bb modes.

The bike feels amazing, I think I'm bottoming out the rear sometimes but I can't feel it. I upgraded the rhythm fork for a 2021 perf elite right off the bat so I can't comment on the stock fork but the grip 2 damper feels really good, although I'm having trouble using 100% of the travel. I always have 10% left in her when I check the o-ring.

So far my favorite setting is the factory one, middle HTA and high bb mode. Low bb is sweet in the bike park but you do pedal strike fairly easily. I also really like the steepest HTA setting for my local trails when I want to go for a mellower ride, much better turn in on the uphill.

I mostly leave the float X in the open setting on the climbs unless i'm on a fire road, I prefer the high amount of grip it provides and don't feel it slowing me down too much.

So far I'm really happy with the bike, the tires grip like hell and the drivetrain is working like it should. My only gripe with it would be the dropper post and the wheels. They work fine for now but I think they are the weak point of this spec (might not last as long as the rest of the components).

If you want one, go for it.

Awesome, thanks for the update! Spec generally specs crappier wheels, but that's not a bad thing. Buy a nice set and keep the OEM as crash backups. And it sounds like you could take a volume spacer out of your fork for that last 10%.

I'm torn about buying an EVO, cause it's kinda close to the Status in terms of riding style. Maybe an Epic EVO would better complement as a long-distance trail bike. I do love the adjustability though...

I only have 1 volume spacer left, might have to try taking it out and adding a bit of air.

The EVO really feels to me like and all-around bike, so yeah maybe not the best if you want multiple rides.

Hey all I put my deposit in for a 2022 evo frame and was wondering if anyone knows if there is a fitment issue with the x2? Im sure the float x is nice but with all the jumping/drops and riding style I have, I can’t imagine it can keep up.

Looks almost white, I like it! Or is it more blue in real life than in these photos?

The color really pops in real life, I was surprised when I first saw it.
