Hey im trying to decide which would be better for a yt tues a coil or air shock i ride mostly jump lines dream track etc but enjoy a bit of fast tech riding and want to know which would be better as i hear coils are nice on rough stuff but aernt progressive enough for real big jumps
Any thoughts?

Generally coils are more plush and air more poppy. Regarding ramp up for jumps, it more comes down to the the progressivity of the frame. YT have some of the most progressive suspension kinematics on the market, somw would say too progressive for air, so you will jave no problem running coil. It is more a case of do you want a pluah feeling shock that removes energy (coil) or a bit more poppy shock that gives a little of energy back (air)

O+

Coil doesn't remove energy. Compression damper converts the energy into heat. The amount of pop is related to rebound damping. Whether a progressive air spring or a linear coil spring works better on any particular frame is related to the linkage design and also the individual rider.

Yes but in general air springs ramp up more for a given rebound/ damping tune and inherently are more ineffecient due to higher friction at absorbing and dissipating force.
