Hey everybody,
I’m looking at new tires, what’s the difference between regular and skinwall tires?

One of them is ugly, and the other is black Razz

I don't think functionally there is any difference between them, its a style thing

Sooo, they’re not made of remaindered foreskin from hospitals and synagogs?
Excellent, that’s about what I was looking for.

There are a few differences, in many cases the skinwall option is a lightweight casing.
This can be either a good thing - lower rotational mass
or a bad thing - less sidewall support, more prone to cuts/slashes

one other thing I found when I was looking at Maxxis offerings, the skinwall tyres were normally limited in their tread compound options too, shit out of luck if you wanted the maxxgrip option, its normally only the basic dual compound option.

the are polarizing in terms of looks, some love it some hate it.

Not much anymore I think. Skin walls used to be made out of a different rubber/compound that wouldn't last in the sun. Skin walls nowadays look to be just a type of "paint" on top of a black tire. At least that's what my Specialized skin walls look like; the inside of the tire is all black.

I have three bikes.
The three bikes have skinwall.
Skinwall is the answer.

I've gone through a set of skinwall Maxxis Ardent are "real" skin walls, meaning almost no sidewall protection. I've worn through the sidewall with a lot of tread left.
Now gone with Maxxis Minions and they are just painted. Which seems to get rubbed off, but better than rock through the sidewall I guess!

Skinwall tires look retro. Some folks like it. Here's a video too.

Maxxis skinwall only offer Exo protection

the only Skinwall that I know with "good" sidewall are the Schwalbe in Super Gravity/Classic-skin.

Haven't tested them out yet but they are in my buy list for next season
