My current bike came with a 100mm suntour 32mm stanchion spring fork which I've been looking to upgrade. I recently came across a 140mm rockshox 35 RL gold for an amazing price. Would it be a bad idea to swap out my 100mm to something 40mm over.

Ive done it, 100mm 120mm 140mm 160mm, slapped 27.5 fork on 26er frames,
all sizes, jacked that front end up to max, but then I like to play and its fun, as biking
should be.

Going from a 100mm fork to a 140mm fork will slacken everything out by 2 degrees, which might be fine for your head tube angle but your seat tube angle will feel really slack and it will push your weight over the rear wheel. In my opinion it's not worth it, I would say just buy a good 100mm air fork as it will feel much better than the stock coil fork. Or if you feel like you need more travel then save up for something more purpose built.

Thank you for the responses

That will likely void the bike's warranty, if that matters to you.
