Hi All

Had a search and couldn't see any specific thread. If there is one, please add a link and I'll delete this as no-one likes duplication.

I've got a Focus Sam2 6.8 coming tomorrow, so not ridden one yet, but exited is a bit of an understatement. It's my first ebike.

Main reason for buying it is to partner my 180 mm park/uplift/Morzine bike so I can get my lazy arse back to the top. Also, it was in stock in my size (huge bonus) and meets all the other things I wanted like air rear, rockshox kit, designed as a downhill charger, and mullet ready.

I'm keen on trying the mullet thing. As I've not ridden the bike yet, I will have a good few rides before I start fiddling, but fiddle I will, eventually. Rear wheel from my 180 bike is same spec as well as drive train, so easy for me to try. I like the idea of shortening rear with the flip chip and increasing fork travel a little which will slacken the head angle a touch to match the bike I'm used to riding.

I would have liked 180 travel, not much more, but it's where i'm comfy. Not much I can do with the rear, but ZEB only needs a new air spring and 190 mm is possible. Anyone else with one increased front travel? I'd probably only got to 180 in reality. (Lets not get into all that crap about stress on head tubes etc, please!)

Anyway, all purely speculative at this time.
Interested to hear from other owners and hear what setups you have tried relative to the type of riding you like.

Thanks

First ride out on it yesterday. I know we all love a new toy, but it is incredibly capable. Powers up anything with ease, battery only dropped one bar out of 5 and I was out for 3 hours in emtb mode. It chews up anything my limited skill level can throw at it.
The motor is quiet and very efficient in emtb mode. You do have to be in the right gear as there is clearly a torque limiter if you try and apply too much power in too high gear up hill.
It's no lightweight at 26 kgs, but I had no idea of the weight when riding or jumping, and I now have to break for sharp switch backs when climbing (that will take some getting used too...)
Its like someones thrown an anchor out at 15 mph though. Typical of all UK bikes, so not specific, but i find 15-20 is ideal for me, so a bit annoying. I know there is an easy fix for this, but we'll see.

I was a bit concerned about the air shock on a heavy bike, but didn't want to be fiddling with different coils, but it was very good. Nice and comfy and didn't bottom out once.
ZEB forks are the base model, but are still very good. I'm 90/95 kgs and ther was not flex that I could detect. I'm no Fox fan as I prefer the simplicity and parts being readily available for rockshox, and I don't spend anywhere near enough time on a bike to dial in all the Fox settings (and I don't care enough to put the time in LOL)
The single up and down shift for emtbs is great, and it still works fast enough. Code R breaks were amazing after I bled them properly (don't rely on Rutland to send it 'ready to ride')

Chain stay protector is great shape and right where it needs to be, until it starts to come un-stuck. Not great for first ride, but a small cable tie in the right spot is a discrete and easy fix.

Purion display is a little '80's casio', but I like it. Easy to read an operate and tells you everything you need to know.

Overall, I'm really impressed. Would have preferred Maxxis tyres, but will cross that bridge when/if I mullet it.

I just got one too! Only been able to ride it in the parking lot, but compared to my transition patrol I know I want to mullet to get a bit slacker HA. I've seen some reviews saying to leave it in the 29 setting and mullet it from there. So I'm getting 165 cranks, and I'll probably go that route. It currently has a 170 z1, but I've got a boxxer ultimate laying around I might have to throw on and d see what it's like... What spec you have on yours?

I’ve just set it up with 27.5 in the back today, I’ve left in the high set up for the steeper HA running the zeb 170mm up front , I’ll let you know how it rides

you've put it in 27.5 or 29 with 27.5 rear wheel? I can't wait to ride mine haha. Are you doing anything about that ugly stem/cable setup?

I’ve put mullet wheel on and left it in 29 set up, bikes handles wicked, not yet changed the stem going to wait till it freaks ha

Nothing comes close to the capability and price point of this bike.

But be prepared to change the freehub and headset. Any water ingress and they are toast !
