Hi! I am a founder of RideBHM (follow us on Instagram at @RideBHM!) which is a Bike Park in Birmingham, AL. We have an agreement with a park here in town to build a bike park on 200 acres 20 minutes from the city center. We are breaking ground this month and have two amazing trail builders (Ride Kanuga and Dialed Dirt) coming in to start building at the end of March. We hope to in-house trail building and eventually expand to 3-5 more locations in Northern Alabama so we looking for a Head of Trail Construction and Design. See below for the job description! Job Description

Do you love Mountain Biking, have dreams of running a trail building team, and want to design amazing trails? This position is exactly that! The Head of Trail leads RideBHM’s Trail Maintenance and Construction functions and will manage a team of builders to execute on trail maintenance, design, and construction. He/She will work closely with our trail construction partners during the construction of the phase I trail system, learning from their experience, constantly “picking their brains”, and leading from the front with his/her effort and attitude. He/She will manage ongoing maintenance trail maintenance, improvement of existing trail, and the design and construction of new trail. He/She will be a “people grower” leading the charge in workforce development by designing a trail construction curriculum that delivers not only thoroughly proficient trail builders but also increases the capabilities of his/her employees in all aspects of life.

Primary Responsibilities
Manages RideBHM’s Trail Construction and Maintenance Functions.
Establishes and executes trail maintenance standards and protocols for maintenance standards.
Ability to envision, plan, and leading a team to construct new trails that add value to the existing system and have advanced features such as jumps, drops, and berms (i.e. MAKE FUN TRAIL!).
Proactively mentors and guides junior trail builders.
Responsible for hiring, firing, and promoting members of the Trail Team.
Works with and learns from trail construction partners.
Designs and manages the RideBHM Trail Builder Program which is a 3 year trail building curriculum that generates capable trail builders and people.
Proactively identifies potential members of the Trail team and generates interest amongst the Mountain Biking Community in joining the RideBHM Trail team.

Requirements
Able to work outside on feet 40+ hours per week.
Required interest in Mountain Biking 3+ days per week.
2 years or more of trail design and/or maintenance experience.
2 years or more of experience operating heavy machinery including excavators, skidsteers, chainsaws, plate compactors, etc.
2 years or more of experience managing unskilled or lightly skilled labor in a construction or trail building setting.

Preferences
Proficient Rider (can hit jumps, drops, rocky/uneven/steep trail to ensure good design)
Workforce Development experience.
Background in site work, landscape architecture, trail building, or construction.
Familiar with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
3+ years of trail design

Skills and Competencies
A proven track record of designing/maintaining fun and varied trail systems.
Strong people skills and intrinsic desire to teach and mentor others especially young people.
Can quickly learn and incorporate new techniques from more experienced trail builders.
Attention to detail in the design and maintenance of trail features.
Ability to teach others how to use heavy machinery safely.
Motivated, organized, proactive, and team-oriented.
Strong leadership and project management skills.
Constant desire to improve trail building capabilities.
Excellent written and oral communicator including the ability to write maintenance and trail building standards and protocols.
