When I got my optic I was carful to take some time to bed in my brakes but for a good few rides despite this they never felt or sounded great having a kind of grinding noise / feel to them a bit like fine sand paper!

This did how ever fade as the disks visibly cut in but it has never totally gone away.

This week I hit a bike park for 4hrs / 12 runs and I found my self backing off as they still didn't sound great & even started to howl.

I tried an advanced run which technically was ok but was often steep & knarly so I was on the brakes a lot & they were real shite, howling like a banshee even juddering jet soon after they went back to smooth but with the usual grinding noise / feel.

Anyone else found this or have any idea what the issue might be, could my pads be low quality or contaminated etc?

Looks like the C3 comes with resin pads. Those actually tend to be quieter but wear faster, deliver less initial bite, and manage heat worse than metallic pads.

Any chance they are just toasted and it's time for new pads?

If that's not it, brake judder is typically caused by an uneven braking surface (could be pads or rotors) so you could start by inspecting your pads and taking a fine-grit sandpaper to 'em if it looks like it might help.

Since it seems like the squeal is happening worse when the brakes get hot, it could also be rotors warping/deforming in response.

If you want to upgrade parts I'd start by throwing on something to help with heat management like metallic pads. Bigger and/or two piece rotors would be my next move (particularly if you are a larger guy) since that'll help with heat management and get you some extra stopping power as well.
