Personally when a manufacturer does that I immediately think that there's a known issue.

May well be worth getting another stem, just in case.

Just had to have a look at 9point8 myself and all I can say is ouch, but I don't see why your stem should have failed when it's supposed to be 7075 aerospace aluminium.

Something is seriously off there.

I'll definitely keep away from them like I hope others do.

Personally I'll stick with Burgtec, possibly even HOPE. But Burgtec would be my first choice.
