10,000 km is a big milestone for me to hit on a mountain bike, though I've had this one for a decade now so it took a while. Still, many of the miles came more recently... 1500 km this year and 7000 km over the last four years. Who else racks up the MTB mileage?
It's been very rewarding & I've never been better for riding skills and cardio conditioning. The bike has been pretty flawless as well and it's maintained regularly. I do a bunch of the work myself to keep costs down.
Dont own or drive a vehicle, cyle to work, shops, with kids, train station both ends, trails through woods, mates in evenings wkends etc youll get plenty miles within the year, them city courier riders eat miles, but then its just a number
In 1983 Tom Ritchey built a custom bike for me. I rode it until the start of the pandemic, when I bought a 29" full suspension bike. I racked up a little over 150,000 miles on my Ritchey, mostly off road. I still have it but now I'm spoiled by suspension.
I had the worst riding year this last year, I got Covid, then had a big shoulder surgery, then I had a big foot/ankle surgery, then I had a bad fall, broke 2 ribs and hurt my back. Then I got Covid again. Needless to say I didn't accumulate many miles.
Right now I'm trying to be motivated to ride but the inertia to couch potato is strong. I have a goal to reach though, I only need to ride 9000 miles to get to 300,000. I'm 64 and my health is letting me down so I don't know if I will make it.
