Everyone's asking how this compares to the Spur or Sentinel. What I want to know is how it compares to my 2018 Smuggler?
Anyone come from a previous gen Smuggler been on this one yet? How do they compare?
I love my carbon Smuggler (2018 ), but this looks pretty amazing. Then again, I liked the Gen 1 Sentinel but could never get the Gen 2 to feel right for me, so didn't get one.
I'd love to know how this compares to the Gen 2 Smuggler from a former owner.
Just recently sold my 2018 Smuggler Carbon since I scored a deal on a new (used for a month) 2023 Smuggler Carbon frame. I had little/no intention on buying the 2023 frame, especially at full price, since I had also put a Cascade rocker link on the 2018 late last year. But the deal came along so I pulled the trigger.
With the Cascade link on the 2018, the difference is incremental but noticeable going to the 2023. The 2023's geo definitely feels/rides slightly longer (reach is up 10mm and chainstays grew 5mm along with -1 deg or so head angle) and prob the reason why it feels more stable/planted, but not too damped in any way. The "pop" is definitely still there and also incrementally increased - took a little tweaking of the knobs/psi to get it right (FWIW, I'm 165lbs and my FloatX is set at ~200 psi, rebound 8/12, LSC 3/10 from closed). My 2018 was over-forked at 150mm and had a factory DPX2, Cascade link made rear travel 130mm from 120mm. My 2023 is also over-forked at 150mm, the rear shock is stock factory FloatX at 130mm.
If you don't have the Cascade link, I feel that the difference between the stock 2018 and 2023 will be significant. My recommendation is if you're generally happy with your 2018, throw the Cascade link on there - that's the biggest bang for your buck and bumps the travel to 130mm, progression to 21% from 11%. If you have the means, and/or a screaming deal to get a new 2023, that's the 'happy path' to get all the latest updates.
Hope that helps give a little perspective between the two models.

Curious if anyone has experience on the new Smuggler and how it compares to the Yeti SB130. I found the 130 to be great until things got chunky/choppy, in which case the rear end felt like it was locked out. How does the new Smuggler handle roots and other high-frequency trail chatter? And does how efficient does it feel compared to a Sentinel or bigger bike?

Bikers Edge referenced the 130 a bit in their review.....
