Ha ha, looking at your profile picture, you’re quite a bit more svelte than me though…

Could also be the sweep of the bar causing issues as well.

Certainly getting the roll of the bars correct has been part of the issue.

This is true, finding the right bar sweep to suit you makes a difference.

8-10° backsweep seems most common, I prefer the straighter 7° backsweep of Renthal bars but I know some people like 12° or even more.

Just post up a video series on pinkbike about going from racing XC to enduro and the comment section will let you know if your bars are too wide

I’m 6ft and I have mine set at 780. I’ve contemplated going to 770. IMO I definitely think 800 is too wide for someone at 5’11

Cut them down to 790 and felt better, but still a bit wide towards the end of longer climbs, so I’ve taken them down to 780 now. Will report back.

Ape index or wing span is a better indicator for bar width than height or torso length. Someone may have a long torso, but the arms of a penguin. Generally speaking, taller people will have a greater ape index so wider bars make more sense. At 6.2" with ape index of +4in. my bars are 800mm but had 785mm before and can't really notice a big difference except in situations where you have to muscle the bike around , then narrower is better.

Down to 780 and I be just had two days at a local bike park. If anything my control feels better and I’ve not once wondered if my handlebars were too wide, so I’m counting that as a win.
