What is your favorite chain lube ?
I've been using T9 Boeshield for years. I just picked up some Dumonde Tech original at the shop yesterday.
Curious as to what others are using.
Thanks in advanced.

I have been on this endless quest for quite some time now.

So far, the absolute best chain lube is the WD40 dry bike chain lube. (I live in AZ)

More recently, I've been using plain WD40, which makes the drivetrain SMOOTHER than any bike-specific chain lube, but only for 1 ride, then you need to re-apply it.... So in other words, not great.

The lubricant you choose should be based upon your riding conditions and how you're going to treat the equipment.

This video does a fair job comparing a bunch of lubricants and might help you decide which is best.

FWIW - the one that takes the top spot (Muc Off Dry Lube ceramic) is good stuff; however, I had issues with it becoming really hard to clean off the gears. And it's not cheap.
Also - the normal WD-40 (sort of suggested by the post above) gets some of the worst results in the video test. If you plan to try it out then expect to have a short ride.
Finally, there are folks who advocate for waxing the chain. You may enjoy experimenting in that craft.

Good luck.

I may be biased but the WD40 chain lube is incredible super slippery and repels water pretty damn well

I like wax or dry lubes because they don't attract too much dirt. Before I used oil and the chain was a mess after my rides.
I'm now trying a Muc-Off lube that is biodegradable, too soon to tell, but so far so good and I like using environmentally friendly products

There are 2 schools of thought on this:

1. If your riding conditions are wet, your chain should be wet. If they are dry, your chain should be dry. For me this usually means a waxy dry lube for most of the year, and an oilier wet lube when it rains.

2. Alternately, there is a very good argument that chain lubes are better at attracting trail dust, sand and grit than reducing friction. I've been experimenting with this, and found it pretty credible, so far. To try it, you'll want to strip the chain of the factory grease with light kerosene before installing it.

I've been waxing my chains for a couple years. I usually dip a chain twice a year, and touch it up with a dry lube every 5-10 rides or so. No complaints with this system. It's buttery smooth and quite, and clean.

I would be up for this ^ experiment.

I have some brake cleaner, and an old worn-out chain on my SS.... Might dry it up and see what happens.
