I run hope MM4 203 front, M675 SLX rear with 160 ice tech. the difference in weight between a 203 and 160 rotor is not much so why not run a big disc at the front/rear if you want.
people moan that bigger rotors will be too powerful but that's like saying all brake manufacturers should stop developing new models because the absolute pinnacle of necessary braking power has already been reached
I personally like very big rotors on very powerful brakes
has anyone ever used shimano deore's? I have full saint on my scalp with 203 on the front and 180 on the back, ridiculous power, but when i get on my bfe the deores feel shocking. Are the xt's better??
wife (160) and bro in law (203) have deores on their hard tails, I have SLX rear on my ghost and bro in law has 2011 XT's on his Fuji (203-180) and there is very little difference between them IMHO.
what discs are on with the deores? maybe the deores need bled.

They were serviced and the hoses shortened by lbs recently but I don't know if they did it right, they normally don't do work on a saturday but the temporary weekend staff did it instead, good point. i've got an XT 180 up front and a deore 180 on the rear, its a Cotic BFe
Those Deore series brakes are very impressive I thought. If they aren't performing well, there's a problem. The XTs have better modulation and power but not by a landslide. I ran the Deore for many seasons with a 203/180 combo and they were great brakes for the 2 piston design.
But better check ur Fork's max rotor diameter.. too much power can rip it..
we have a descent here that would really use all the bigger rotor benefits.. especially cooling...
Definitely good advice however I ran a 203 with a Fox RLC qr fork on some serious descents without issue. At the time I needed money more than teeth I think but I think most forks with resist the forces and it's more for liability. Maybe I was lucky. Dunno. No qr forks for me anymore...
